Classical Series / Live at Timucua: The Fernwood String Quartet is a classical string quartet based in Orlando, Florida, with two central goals: Performing music by living composers, and keeping the wonderful repertoire of classical, romantic and modern string quartet music alive in Central Florida.
About the program:
On September 4, 2024, Anton Bruckner would have been 200 years old. On this occasion, the Fernwood String Quartet is going to perform Bruckner’s famous String Quintet in F Major, his only major work for chamber music. This wonderful music – less ‘bulky’ than his symphonies, but still showing off the essence of his composition techniques – was written in 1878/79, in between his 5th and 6th symphonies.
The program will open with Antonín Dvořák’s String Quintet op. 97 in E flat Major, a work written just after his ‘American’ String Quartet, showing the same approach of blending Bohemian and American influences. With 5 string players, Dvorak achieves even more colorful and more vibrant expression in this popular work of late romantic chamber music.
