Works With Sounds Class: Harmony

Composer Jeremy Adams leads this class which combines music making with computer science. This free class is open to all ages and skill levels. Students will create multimedia works of art using coding skills to sculpt audio and visuals. Learn about a specific topic through a seminar for the first hour, then apply your new skills and create a composition for the remainder of the class!

Trumpeter/Composer Scott Dickinson holds degrees in jazz performance and composition from the University of North Florida, Depaul University, and the University of Miami. As a performer, Scott has had the opportunity to share the stage with major artists such as Michael Feinstein, Larry Coryell, Alphonse Mouzon, and Mason Bates.

Scott also maintains an active career as a composer and arranger. Scott's pieces have been played by professional ensembles across the country including the Jazz Conceptions Orchestra, Rob Parton's JazzTECH Big Band, as well as Bob Lark's DePaul Alumni Big Band.

For Trees & Birds is a New York City based Indie Rock and Contemporary Jazz band that blends improvisation and rhythmic structure to create a "choir over groove" aesthetic. They are influenced by a wide range of artists such as Björk, Bill Frisell, Dirty Projectors, The second Miles Davis Quintet (1964-66), Radiohead, and the Bill Evans Trio (LaFaro & Motian). While the band’s sizable repertoire of original music (with a cover tossed in here or there) proves to be eclectic, For Trees & Birds is a group well rooted in jazz and alternative rock. They perform frequently in the New York City area, and have toured in California and Florida.

Sonya Belaya

Sonya Belaya is a Russian-American musician who divides her time between Michigan and New York. As a diverse music-maker performing contemporary, improvised, and classical music, Sonya is invested in vulnerable art and the development of strong, personal collaborations. Sonya has performed as a pianist and singer with members of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, New Music Detroit, Michigan Opera Theatre, Willo Collective, Russian Renaissance, and Bang on a Can All-Stars. Currently, she is working on releasing a debut chamber folk EP entitled ‘Songs My Mother Taught Me’.

Dr. Eladio Scharron with Carrie Wiesinger

Eladio Scharrón was born in San Sebastián, Puerto Rico into a family of guitarists well known in the island. He is a graduate of the University of Puerto Rico where he studied with guitarist-composer Ernesto Cordero. After obtaining the B.A. in music, he went to Paris to continue graduate studies in guitar under the direction of the renowned master Alberto Ponce. In 1981 he obtained the prestigious Diplôme de Concertiste at the École Normale de Musique de Paris. Dr. Scharrón has won numerous awards and competitions, among them, the Concurso de Guitarra de la Casa the España in Puerto Rico, the International Guitar Competition of Sable Sur Sarthe in France, and the Reynolds Musical Award.
