Will Teegarden – Into the Fire: a Homecoming Concert of Orlando Born Musicians CANCELLED
June 7, 2020 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
$10-$20 suggested donation. Please also bring food or wine to share.
Special exhibition of works by Homero Daniel Rodriguez
“A chamber music performance presented by a few of us Orlando born musicians as a sort of celebratory homecoming. The first proposed program is centered around Jake Heggie’s “Camille Claudel: Into the Fire” for string quartet and mezzo soprano. The piece tells a heart wrenching narrative from the perspective of Camille Claudel, who was a spurned and ultimately institutionalized lover of the famous 20th century sculptor, Auguste Rodin. The piece is 7 movements in length and runs about 30 minutes long. The concert will be a examination of the triumphs and struggles of artists (particularly musicians) everywhere, from the most intimate events to a large look at society as a whole. Other proposed works to pair with the Heggie would be the first Shostakovich String Quintet, Ravel’s String Quartet, and/or the Mozart “Dissonance” Quartet. Despite some dark undertones, the concert will be more or less celebratory. Some performers: Yefim Romanov, violin (Orlando born, FSYO alumni, currently in the New World Symphony in Miami) Rebecca Edge, violin (Orlando born, FSYO alumni, currently in school at Indiana University) Kip Reicken, viola (Orlando born, FSYO alumni, currently in the New World Symphony in Miami) Myself, cello (Orlando born, FSYO alumni, residing/ working in Pittsburgh as a musician) Brian Gilling, piano (Pittsburgh based conductor and pianist, the only non-Orlando born) Laura Anne Neel, mezzo soprano (Orlando born, Opera singer and vocal coach now based in London).”
