Orilla’s musical philosophy is rooted within the minimalistic instrumentation of voice and bass, allowing great freedom of expression and spontaneity. Their music touches on a wide variety of styles. Tight arrangements and spontaneous improvisation freely coexist in the musical ecosystem that is Orilla. The creative musical duo is composed of two accomplished musicians from diverse backgrounds: Ona Kirei (Spain) and Alejandro Arenas (Colombia).
Alejandro Arenas was born in Medellin, Colombia. He relocated to the US in 2001 where he became an in-demand upright and electric bassist. Vocalist, composer and arranger Ona Kirei was born in Barcelona, Spain. Orilla presents their album “Daring Flowers” in Orlando. It straddles numerous thin bloodlines between jazz, pop, folk and yes, world music, but more than this it’s a synthesis of these two creative young people’s musical desires and aspirations. It’s melodiously experimental. Kirei and Arenas have been making music together since the fall of 2020. Sometimes she guests at gigs by La Lucha, the jazz trio for which he is the founding bassist, and occasionally they get the chance to perform together, as just bass and vocals.
