Open House: Fernwood Quartet (live stream)

June 13, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm

The four members of the Fernwood String Quartet pose in front of a house with their instruments. From left to right: Juan Carlos Siviero, viola; Julia Gessinger, violin; Hanrich Claassen, cello; Andreas Volmer, violin

The Fernwood String Quartet comes back to Timucua with a program built around Shostakovich’s short and fierce 7th quartet, and Mendelssohn’s passionate Quartet in A Minor, op. 13.

About Fernwood String Quartet:

The Fernwood String Quartet was formed in 2017 by players of the Alterity Chamber Orchestra, an Orlando-based chamber orchestra focused on performing the music of living composers.

The quartet focuses both on contemporary composers and on the classical repertoire from Haydn and Mozart to Shostakovich. Concerts in Central Florida in the past years featured works from local and international living composers – including some premieres – as well as 20th-century classics by Maurice Ravel and Arnold Schoenberg.

All players also regularly play with other orchestras across Central Florida including the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, Bach Festival Orchestra, and the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra.
