Live at Timucua: ROVA Saxophone Quartet (Rebroadcast)

August 28, 2020 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Timucua and the Civic Minded 5 present the live rebroadcast of ROVA Saxophone Quartet from March 18, 2018.

On this date, ROVA performed for the 100th CM5 concert! ROVA has performed together for over 40 years. They are pioneers of now-familiar, contemporary saxophone quartet vernacular. In noting Rova’s innovative role in developing the all-saxophone ensemble as “a regular and conceptually wide-ranging unit,” The Penguin Guide to Jazz calls its music “a teeming cosmos of saxophone sounds” created by “deliberately eschewing conventional notions about swing prodding at the boundaries of sound and space…”

Setlist:
1. Oxygen by Bruce Ackley
2. The Enumeration (for Glenn Spearman) by Steve Adams
3. The Dark Forest Suite (Adams)
4. Einstein’s Tourniquet (Rova Sax Quartet spontaneous composition)
5. A Leap of Faith in Transverse Time (Jon Raskin)
6. The Time Being (Raskin)
7. NC17 (Rova group-composition)
8. Hidden in Ochre (Larry Ochs)
Players:
Bruce Ackley: soprano sax
Steve Adams: alto and sopranino sax
Larry Ochs: tenor sax
Jon Raskin: baritone sax
