Jamila Tekalli, pianist

American pianist Jamila Tekalli has performed in concerts, festivals, and competitions throughout the United States, Canada, and Central and South America as a solo pianist, collaborative and chamber musician. In 2006, Ms. Tekalli received her Bachelor of Music from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music where she studied piano with Evelyne Brancart and Arnaldo Cohen. She completed her Masters in 2009 at University of Central Florida with studies with Laurent Boukobza. Ms. Tekalli received her Doctor of Musical Arts in piano performance from the University of Miami, studying principally with Tian Ying and chamber music with Santiago Rodriguez. In addition to her primary teachers, Ms. Tekalli has studied with notable artist teachers Robert McDonald, Gilbert Kalish, Mark Steinberg, Julian Martin, Boris Slutsky, and Marc Durand. Dr. Tekalli is Adjunct Professor at Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida, and during the summers, Faculty and Department Head of Piano at Camp Encore/Coda in Sweden, Maine. As an active and passionate teacher in piano instruction, music history and music theory, Dr. Tekalli is a member of the Music Teacher’s National Association, National Guild of Piano Teachers, and Chamber Music of America.
