Fernwood String Quartet presents “Air from Another Planet”
June 2 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
After its sold-out debut concert in June 2018, the Fernwood Quartet comes back to Timucua, this time joining forces with soprano Samantha Barnes Daniel. They will take you on a journey that starts in the classical era, with Mozart’s dark and expressive Quartet in d Minor. After that, they make a stop at the end of the Romantic period and take you into the early Modern era, breaking free from the restraints of harmonic traditions – all this within one seminal work, the highly expressive second String Quartet by another Viennese composer, Arnold Schönberg, which starts off in late romantic idiom, and finally leaves behind tonality in the last movement which puts Stefan George’s famous poem, “Ich fühle Luft von einem anderen Planeten” (“Air from another planet”), to music.
Mrs Barnes Daniels has sung at Chautauqua Opera, Arizona Opera, Opera Tampa, and regularly appears with Orlando Opera and with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra. She is a founding member of the professional women’s ensemble Helena and is an Adjunct Professor of Voice at Rollins College.
