Elizabeth Baker: A Soft Roar into the Void

March 11, 2018 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

https://youtu.be/JwwufLqLuM87:00 pm doors 7:30 show

A program of works by American composers that explore the subtleties of solo piano. The program encourages the audience to listen beyond the fundamental tones that they initially hear and to get lost in a sea of overtones and harmonics as vibrating sonic bodies explore every part of the room. Tonal works intertwined with pantonal works further explore a variety of shades in the modern solo piano pallette. Also, featured is Command Voices a work for solo pianist, that employs vibrating objects on the strings to conceptually alter the conversational relationship between performer and instrument.

Command Voices (2017) by Elizabeth A. Baker
Dream (1948) by John Cage
A Room (1943) by John Cage
Piano 2 – Mvt 2 (1986) by Julius Eastman
Sashay by Nathan Corder
Selections from Visionary Landscapes by Alan Hovhaness

$10-$20 suggested donation. Please bring food or wine to share.

Featured Artist: Meike Aton (Pronounced MY-kuh A-ten) is a German born artist who moved to the United States in 1979. Her artwork is instantly identifiable because of the vibrant colors and textural techniques she employs.

Her creations have a larger than life feel to them, and many compositions are spread thematically across multiple canvases (referred to as a Diptych Triptych or Polyptych in the art world).
